Scene 7 of 17

Hello again. I’ve been working on Apricots (my webcomic) on my lunch breaks at work and feeling a bit of a disconnect between the year old drawings and how I draw currently. I sketched and lined these pages so long ago that it’s weird going back to colour them now. I don’t hate them at all, it’s just a really weird feeling to be drawing something so much later than expected. Working on so many shorter projects means that taking a long time to finish something is pretty alien to me (and by long I mean years as opposed to a of a couple months maximum).

In my head I always have a list of priorities that I update and go through pretty regularly, it often ends up scribbled on post-its. The list of art things I currently want to complete sits at seven total things one of which is Apricots. It’s a bit of a pain being a completionist. One of the most irritating things about being an artist is that if you want to make something you can do that, which is amazing but also terrifying. There are so many thoughts, colours, themes, ideas and you have the power to create all of them! But do you have the time to make them? Nope. Patience is apparently a key component to making cool things.

I could write about how having a day job makes it harder to do things for my own joy but honestly better people have written it a hundred times over. When I’m retired in 800 years, or whatever it ends up being, I’m going to be the Most Skilled old person I’ll be taking courses every week to avoid boredom and having a blast. Until then I’ll do what I can to cross another idea of the list.

The current list (With some things in code because I’m sneaky):

  • Apricots

  • Punk poster

  • Donald Duck mini

  • 24 IT stickers

  • Cowboy bus stop

  • Constellations

  • RISO

See you as I continue to cross these off.
